A Nassau County Supreme Court Justice recently ended a three-year nasty custody battle between Bill O’Reilly, the FOX News Anchor, and his ex-wife, Maureen McPhilmy, by granting custody of their two minor children to his ex-wife.
Family court cases are typically sealed to protect the children, but there are credible reports that the court heard testimony accusing O’Reilly of physically assaulting his ex-wife in the couple’s Manhasset home.
Reports are that a court-appointed forensic examiner testified that O’Reilly’s daughter claimed to have witnessed her father drag her mother down a staircase by her neck, apparently unaware that the daughter was watching. I have to admit, I am a fan of the O’Reilly show and he seems like a pretty straight shooter, but I have also been around enough to know you can’t always know what really goes on behind closed doors.
O’Reilly has denied that he abused his wife, but refuses to violate the court ordered confidentiality put in place to protect the children and will make no further comments.
O’Reilly and McPhilmy separated in April 2010, after she started dating a Nassau County Police Detective named Jeffrey Gross. Their divorce became final in September 2011 and they had originally agreed to share custody of their school aged children.
