Police arrested a man Sunday who robbed an 89-year-old woman as she was going to a revival service at First Baptist Church.
Edward Schwab, 42, was charged with common law robbery and possession of stolen property, a news release said.
The robbery happened about 2:20 p.m. Sunday as the woman was in the church parking lot, said the church administrator.
Schwab stopped the woman and asked for directions, police said.
As she was answering him, Schwab grabbed the purse from her shoulder, knocking the woman to the ground, police said.
Schwab left the scene, but police were able to recover the woman's purse, said Officer Antoine Kincade, a police spokesman.
The victim had injuries to her lip and shoulder, police said.
She was taken to Rainey Specialty Hospital and transferred to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, authorities said.
Schwab's bail was set at $7,000.
